Dr. Alan Durkin  was honored to be invited as a lecturer

Dr. Alan Durkin  was honored to be invited as a lecturer and trainer at the Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Society’s May 2023 event. This prestigious gathering brought together over thirty board-certified plastic surgeons from the Pittsburgh area, offering an exceptional platform to discuss cutting-edge advancements in aesthetic surgery.

Dr. Durkin’s presentation, sponsored by MTF Biologics, showcased an innovative procedure developed by his surgical team in Vero Beach: the MesoBioMatrix® facelift. This technique specifically addresses the recurrence of platysmal bands (neck bands) in secondary rhytidectomy (facelift surgery).

Secondary rhytidectomy is a significant focus of Dr. Durkin’s practice, as many patients experience neck band recurrence after their initial facelift. The MesoBioMatrix® facelift uses a biologic mesh to provide direct support to the platysma of the neck, redefining the projection and position of the bands. This groundbreaking approach offers patients enhanced outcomes and durability in secondarily lifted necks.

Originally introduced at the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons in San Diego in 2022, the MesoBioMatrix® facelift has been widely recognized for its transformative impact on secondary facelift surgeries.

During the event, Dr. Durkin had the privilege of engaging with renowned plastic surgeons, including Dr. Kenneth Shestak and Dr. Dennis Hurwitz. Their insightful discussions underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing the field of aesthetic medicine.

The MedSpa Network team also toured several leading practices in the Pittsburgh area, including the remarkable facility led by Dr. Joseph Hunstad. These visits highlighted the region’s dedication to innovation and the integration of advanced materials like form-stable acellular matrices into clinical practice.

Dr. Durkin’s participation in the Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Society’s event marked a significant milestone in the advancement of facial aesthetics. As the birthplace of transplant surgery, Pittsburgh holds a special place in medical innovation. Sharing expertise and exchanging ideas with such a distinguished group of surgeons reflects the collaborative spirit that drives progress in this field.
